Kiwi cyclist Sam Webster has finished fourth in the men's sprint on the final day of the World Track Cycling Championships in Belarus.

After beating Olympic champion Jason Kenny in the quarter finals, the 21-year-old took event winner German Stefan Botticher to a deciding ride in the semifinal before narrowly going down in the bronze medal ride to Frenchman Francois Pervis.

Webster says he was a bit tired today and made a couple of mistakes.

Webster became the first New Zealand rider to qualify for the sprint finals at the world championships.

New Zealand end the meet with one gold and two silver medals.
