Aussie triathlete cleared of tuberculosis

Triathlon world under-23 champion Aaron Royle has been cleared of tuberculosis by his doctors in Spain.

The Australian rising star has been hospitalised for over a week after coughing up blood following a French Grand Prix event earlier this month.

Initial X-rays revealed a 12mm cyst on Royle's left lung which doctors believe was an abscess.

The 23-year-old has been on intravenous antibiotics and is waiting on a clearance that will allow him to start riding an exercise bike.

A Triathlon Australia spokesman says it's hoped Royle will be discharged from the hospital in Vitoria on Wednesday.
