Drunk Melbourne Cup spectator heaps more shame on event

Yahoo! New Zealand Sport November 9, 2012, 7:47 am

After news last week that the Melbourne Cup is one of the booziest events on the planet, spectators at the event held this week have done little to dispel those myths.

Pictures from this year's event show spectators falling about drunk in their pretty dresses and suits, but now one woman has heaped further shame on the event with a damming video.

The jaw-dropping clip which is making waves in Australia and the UK after being posted on YouTube shows a woman in a tight blue dress, fascinator and high heels drunkenly trying to punch her way through the Cup crowd.

The embarrassing footage shot at Flemington Racecourse shows her throwing wild punches and collapsing on the floor before being pinned down.

It eventually took five security guards to remove her.

The drunken spectator was just one of many to humiliate themselves during the event, but organizers will no doubt be looking to clean up the race's image after the bad behavior caught the attention of the world's media.

Fancy that. The English shouldn't criticize our Aussie allies. Their skunky behaviour at soccer matches is worse. I have been to the Melbourne Cup, and it is for people getting drunk and letting their hair down. You can't pick the winner anyway, unless you are from mensa. All the way!

I understand she is now claiming she was drugged. I feel another Tui moment coming. Call me a cynic, but I guess she feels so ashamed now she has sobered up, she wants to deflect the blame.

In Dusseldorf, Germany, is a nice street, with a fried chicken place, a pub, a sausage place, a pub, and so on for 50 pubs. Every pub has its own beer. Never made it till the end of the street. I stopped when I had enough.

Shameful behaviour. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. People waste their money on 'getting drunk' - the cost of cleaning up, and waste of public resources etc is embarrassing. People who get drunk in public should be ashamed of themselves. Send your wasted money to people who need it rather than wasting it on shamefull sorry self.
