Australian Melissa Breen couldn't keep up with the blistering pace set in the first round of the women's 100m at the London Olympics.

Breen was eliminated after finishing sixth in her heat in a time of 11.34 seconds behind winner and defending Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from Jamaica (11.00).

Amazingly, six women broke the 11-second barrier on Friday headed by reigning world champion Carmelita Jeter from the United States (10.83).

Until Friday, only three women in Olympic history had run faster than 11 seconds in the opening round of the 100m.

Breen, 21, set her personal best of 11.27 last month.
