Former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark says they must be careful about handling their Europa League campaign.

Clark has hopes of Toon carrying on their momentum from last season.

"Newcastle just have to carry on the momentum from last season," he told the Evening Chronicle.

"They will be playing a lot of extra fixtures if they get to the group stages of the Europa League. When you play on a Thursday night and then have games on Sunday it tests the squad.

"It as an impact on things and you have to juggle things around, which Alan and his staff will do. Look at Fulham, they reached the final two years ago and their position in the league was 12th.

"It is about getting the balancing act right."
