Tottenham chiefs wanted Harry Redknapp gone before the end of last season, it has been revealed.

The Sun says Spurs were gutted Redknapp was not offered the England job.

For it would have gifted the London club the perfect solution to end a relationship that had already disintegrated.

Spurs wanted a younger manager, the FA needed a replacement for Fabio Capello and Harry was the people's choice to become the national team's new boss.

Tottenham would also have benefited from a fat compensation cheque from the FA.

But the shock appointment of Roy Hodgson as the Three Lions coach left Spurs with no option but to sack their manager.
