English import Steven Croft again played a big hand as Northern Districts beat Central Districts by six wickets in the national Twenty20 cricket competition.

Croft scored an unbeaten 59 in Hamilton on Friday night as ND, set 150 for victory, produced a measured chase to get to 153-4 with five balls to spare.

The Knights have won both their first two matches to sit alone at the top of the table.

Croft shared in a pivotal 80-run fourth-wicket stand with veteran Scott Styris, who made 46.

Three weeks ago, the Lancashire allrounder scored 81 when ND opened their T20 campaign with victory over Otago.

Central, who won the toss, made a leisurely start to their innings, before Carl Cachopa blazed away during the latter overs.

Cachopa smacked 10 boundaries, including four sixes, posting 64 not out off just 33 balls as the Stags got to 149-6.
