No golden repeat for Adams
No golden repeat for Adams

New Zealand favourite Valerie Adams has failed to retain her Olympic title with long-time rival Nadzeya Ostapchuk claiming the gold.

After easing into the final late last night Adams took the lead in the first round of the final before Ostapchuk unleashed with a series of massive throws.

Heading into the final round the Belarusian had four throws over 21 metres and Adams, in order to retain her title, sat well behind and would have had to throw a new personal best.

And while she pushed hard her technique wasn't quite right and she wasn't able to break the 21 metre mark, leaving Ostapchuk to glory and Adams having to settle for silver.
