Barry and Jones advance

Ellen Barry has advanced to the quarterfinals of the $US50,000 ($NZ66,330) women's tennis event in Kurume, Japan.

The 7-5 6-3 victory over Japan's Mari Tanaka will Barry up for a match with seventh seed Erika Takao, also from Japan, for a place in the top four.

GD Jones has also continued his winning ways, beating Christian Piaz 6-2 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals of the $US10,000 event in the Mexico.

He and doubles partner Nima Roshan of the United States are through to the semifinals of the doubles after a 6-2 6-3 win over Americans Christopher Klingman and Peter Shults.
