Carter at risk of missing rest of tournament

It looks like the nightmares of New Zealand rugby fans may be coming true with Daniel Carter in doubt for the remainder of the World Cup.

Carter was earlier today named as All Blacks captain after Richie McCaw withdrew with a reoccurrence of his niggling foot injury.

But just hours later it appears a groin injury has put the first five-eighths' participation in doubt.

Carter is at risk of missing the rest of the tournament after he went down in agony during kicking practice at today's captain's run ahead of the test against Canada tomorrow.

Colin Slade will now start in the number 10 jersey, with hooker Andrew Hore to captain the All Blacks for the first time.

Andy Ellis comes onto the reserves bench in the number 20 jersey, with Piri Weepu to cover first–five eighth, in jersey number 21.

Carter will be further assessed this evening and an update will be given tomorrow.

You non-kiwi's here, it's all wishful thinking with you. Do you think because one man is injured the team will lose? Think again - we have won before without Dan, as good as he is, he was out for almost a year remember & we cleaned everyone up. Bloody knockers live somewhere else, because you don't deserve to call yourself New Zealanders.

Media bullshit, he'll be ok. Just mind games with the opposition I'm picking.

He'll play again. Maybe not in the quarters but no way will he miss semis. Carter at 75% is better than slade at 100%
