The Highlanders have scored a massive upset in their final match of the 2008 Rebel Sport Super 14, beating the Crusaders 26-14 in Christchurch.
The Highlanders went down 5-0 after Corey Flynn scored inside the first ten minutes, but replied immediately with a try to Paul Williams from a skewed Daniel Carter kick.
The visitors kept on top of the table-toppers throughout the first half, with tries to Adam Thomson and Toby Morland giving them a 23-14 lead at the break.
Solid defence shielded the Highlanders' advantage through the second half, as the home side found themselves lucky not to concede more points.
A penalty to Mike Delany was the only scoring play of the second spell, handing the Highlanders an unlikely 26-14 win to finish a disappointing season on a high.
