Nesta Carter Biography
Although he's grown accustomed to living in the shadow of countryman and 4x100-meter relay teammate Usain Bolt - and increasingly, young Jamaican star Yohan Blake, too - Carter is one of the world's elite sprinters in his own right. He took a silver medal this year in the 60 meters at the world indoor championships, and he has a large haul of hardware from running on Jamaica's loaded relay teams. Carter won Olympic gold in Beijing by running the first leg on the 4x100 team that set a world record with a time of 37.10 seconds, and he also started things off for the world champions in 2011 as the team broke its own mark with a 37.04. Despite an impressive personal best of 9.78 seconds in the 100 meters - making him the fourth-fastest man of all time - Carter's individual prospects are murkier in a daunting field, although he did reach the final at last year's worlds before finishing seventh.
