Two flares thrown at Sydney's Soundwave

The organiser of a Sydney music festival says he has images of the person who threw a flare during a performance on the weekend, badly burning a young girl.

Two flares were thrown at the Soundwave festival, including one which badly burned a young reveller in the mosh pit, according to comments on a social media video.

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has slammed those responsible for lighting and throwing the incendiary devices as British band Bring Me The Horizon played at the event in Olympic Park on Sunday.

He used Twitter after the incident to ask for information about the flare-throwers.

"Tonight you seriously burned and disfigured a young girl," he said.

"Poor little thing is really hurt. Massive awful burn on her forearm. I am devastated for her."

He also said the person or persons responsible had been caught on camera.

"Thank you twitterverse we now have images of this jerk from multiple angles. Hopefully we can post asap and get him identified."

A social media user who posted a YouTube video of the incident said: "This is the second flare that was lit up in the BMTH (Bring Me The Horizon) crowd which was thrown on the top of the stage.

"The first one was thrown around a bit before hitting someone, burning them pretty badly and starting a fire in the pit."

The video posted on Sunday night shows one of the flares burning on top of the stage before falling off, apparently into the crowd.

Other YouTube posters backed up the suggestion that two flares were thrown.

"The first one appeared to explode/come apart when it hit the guys at the front," another user said.

Police have launched an investigation and the injured girl is recovering in hospital.

More than 200 police officers were present at the festival, which was attended by about 75,000 people.

Officers and drug detection dogs searched 252 people and identified 54 allegedly in possession of illicit drugs.
