The announcement comes just days before the trials to select the New Zealand Rowing team to compete in the Sydney World Cup.
The 57-year-old has worked as the Elite Development Manager for emerging talent across the Tasman, and coached Australia's men's coxless four to back to back golds in the Barcelona and Atlanta Olympics.
He has been the head coach of Rowing Australia.
