Radcliffe out of Olympic women's marathon

Britain's Paula Radcliffe has been ruled out of the Olympic marathon because of a foot injury that flared up during training over the past month.

Radcliffe warned on Sunday morning that she could have "heartbreaking news to break" and UK Athletics confirmed in the afternoon that she would miss the London Olympics for medical reasons.

The three-time New York City marathon winner failed to finish the 2004 Athens marathon and was 23rd in Beijing in 2008.
