New Zealand have beaten Pakistan by 64 runs in the second one day cricket international at Abu Dhabi Stadium today, tieing the series going into the third and final match.
Powered by a brilliant century by opener Brendon McCullum New Zealand posted 303-8 and then restricted Pakistan to 239 as they bounced back from a 138 run defeat in the first one day international.
The 27-year-old right-handed batsman scored 131 for his second one-day hundred and added 126 for the second wicket with Martin Guptill (62) after New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat in the must-win match.
New Zealand had McCullum to thank for repairing the innings after Aaron Redmond fell in the sixth over for six, caught off paceman Mohammad Aamir.
Stripped of vice-captaincy to allow him to concentrate on batting form last month, McCullum steadied the innings, driving and cutting with authority during his 129-ball knock. He hit 14 boundaries and three sixes.
Pakistan started solidly but a three wicket burst from Scott Styris and two wickets each to captain Daniel Vettori and Kyle Mills slowed their momentum.
McCullum was named man of the match.
