The designers for the New Zealand Olympic team uniform for London have looked to the 1948 London Olympics for inspiration, going for a distinctly vintage look.
The New Zealand Olympic Committee unveiled the team uniform on Thursday, saying the design is a "nod to our proud sporting past".
Unfortunately, New Zealand's seven athletes failed to win any medals at the 1948 Games in post-WWII London.
White piping is the most significant link to 1948.
The uniform was designed by Peak and Rodd & Gunn, and included input from athletes Mahe Drysdale, Nathan Twaddle, Chantal Brunner and Sarah Ulmer.
They provided an athlete's perspective on the look, fit and comfort of the uniform.
The uniform also features for the first time a t-shirt designed by a member of the public.
Wellington's Gareth Gardner beat more than 3500 entries with his Hei Tiki design, which has been adapted for the Olympics.6-4 7(10)-6

@KenBobPryde hmmm, reminds me a bit of another echo chamber.
The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it’s long past time to move on and talk about golf.
Tough to wake up on the day of the draw for a slam and not be in it! Was hoping it was a bad dream... #reality

Its also time we thought about vastly improving vintage wages. But the color black indicates we a dressed for a funeral.
ReplyIts vintage naturally for a nz selection esp going for a black color!
ReplyVery nice... I like it. I couldn't care less whether it was taken from the past or is a new design, I just want it to look good.
ReplyI think it looks neat and should be popularly accepted. I just hope that our contingent doesn't persist in performing Haka at whim but keep it to the traditional pre-game performances. and perhaps the opening ceremony.
6 RepliesWell it can't look any worse than the super-fugly uniform worn at the last Olympiad. Oh wait, make it the last 6 Olympiads. At first glance it looks quite tasteful for a change, although it's taken from a distance and I can't make out the patterns on the women's dresses.
