Waitakere grind out first O-League win

Second-half goals from Benjamin Totori and Brent Fisher gave Waitakere United their first win of the 2010 O-League soccer championship against Tahiti's AS Manu Ura at Auckland's Fred Taylor Park in Waitakere today.

The win means Waitakere are now one point clear at the top of Group A with crosstown rivals Auckland City FC still to play their second round match against New Caledonia's AS Magenta at Kiwitea Street tomorrow.

Waitakere coach Neil Emblen was happy to get the result but said the overall performance was disappointing.

"We missed a few gilt-edged chances but we also didn't create a lot.

" But we still got the three points we needed and I'm confident the team will keep improving."

Waitakere enjoyed the majority of possession in the early stages of the game and had chances to score through Dimas Da Silva and Fisher.

AS Manu Ura had their best chance of the half in the 38th minute but goalkeeper Ross Nicholson was able to smother the ball at striker Auguste Washetine's feet.

Waitakere's breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Totori slammed home from close range.

Fisher then scored from a penalty for his second O-League goal.
