The Wellington Phoenix will be without six players on their pre-season soccer tour of India.
A 21-strong group left on Friday for Australia, where they will play A-League rivals the Newcastle Jets on Saturday night.
They then travel on to India for matches against four I-League opponents.
Veteran goalkeeper Mark Paston will return to New Zealand following the Newcastle match ahead of the pending birth of his third child.
Four injured players are unavailable for the tour - Vince Lia, Jimmy Downey, Dani Sanchez and Lucas Pantelis - while Mirjan Pavlovic is still on loan in Australia.
Phoenix tour squad:
Mark Paston, Glen Moss, Manny Muscat, Tony Lochhead, Michael Boxall, Alex Smith, Leo Bertos, Paul Ifill, Benjamin Totori, Jeremy Brockie, Cameron Lindsay, Ben Sigmund, Andrew Durante, Scot Basalaj, Justin Gulley, Luke Rowe, Tom Doyle, Tom Biss, Alec Solomons, Tyler Boyd, Louie Fenton

India sounds like a fair enough place to challenge nz poofball players. Considering they struggled against poofball powerhouses, Tahiti, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia it makes sense that they try and foot it with the big boys in the Indian league. India do play soccer well right? Soccer - The Sport of Queens, well done poofball, well done.

ReplyPlayers go missing in India....Oh the intrigue...But wait, it appears they didn't even go to India. Whats with all the misleading titles. I suppose, no one in NZ is interested in football so the media have to make up extraordinary titles to entice readers. Well done Yahoo, you know how to manipulate your audience.
ReplyPantelis still injured? Surely the Phoenix should have got rid of that Pavlovic idiot by now - what a waste of space he will be this year.
ReplySneaky buggars slipping away without telling anyone.
