All Whites striker Shane Smeltz is back in the goals just a week out from the World Cup football qualifier against Bahrain.

Smeltz' 36th-minute header has given Gold Coast United a one-nil win over Sydney FC in the A-League.

It is his11th goal of the season, but his first in three matches.
