Injured All Blacks loose forward Victor Vito is out of the Hurricanes' side to face the Cheetahs in the Super Rugby match in Wellington on Saturday.
Vito strained a calf in training on Thursday and his No.8 jersey goes to Brad Shields, who will make his first appearance in the starting 15.
Mike Reddish comes into the squad to take Shields' place on the bench.
The Hurricanes' selection also features the return of openside flanker Karl Lowe, who missed the entire 2011 season through injury.
Lowe, who damaged the cruciate ligament in a knee at the end of 2010, played for the Hurricanes Development side last week against Samoa A.
Lock James Broadhurst and inside centre Charlie Ngatai will start after having come off the bench so far this season.
Hurricanes: Andre Taylor, Cory Jane, Conrad Smith (capt), Charlie Ngatai, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Brad Shields, Karl Lowe, Faifili Levave, Jason Eaton, James Broadhurst, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles, Tristan Moran. Res: Motu Matu'u, Michael Bent, Mark Reddish, Jack Lam, Chris Eaton, Daniel Kirkpatrick, Jayden Hayward.| Rank | Team | Won | Lost | Points |

It's rotation. He said last week that he would be doing it this week, he just didn't say who.
ReplyThe one you have doubts about, who may not last the game, should be the one who starts. Lam can (and will) be brought on at any time. These days starting doesn't mean better than bench.
Replysmells of rotation with the long season. Lowe is also a bit faster than Lam so might be better versus the ball throwing Cheetahs. Good to see Shields get a start, we need to see if he can hold it together for 60-80 mins consistently.
ReplyI would not say he has been dropped Jason it is a long season for top class rugby and it is good to have a bit of a rest at times. They need to get all the players match fit at this level. The young players are certainly making a name for themselves, I Know Andre Taylor and are very happy to see him do well since I watched him play for PNHS years ago. I knew he was going to be a very good player in time.
ReplyIt's the Cheetahs. It's the only game of the year they can give Lowe a run. Lam played all of last season, and theres 16 games this season. No need to run players to the ground.
