It's a dream sporting weekend. . .
May 08, 2009

I can't wait. The two best teams set to slug it out to see who's number one. The pride and the passion, a sell-out crowd baying for blood and undoubtedly the biggest game of the year so far in the sport.
Yep, the Super 14 is hitting its straps and I can't wait to see the Hurricanes take on the Chiefs on Saturday night.
I understand people have become frustrated with the confusion regarding ELVs and the amount of tactical kicking which has become something of a bore for fans - but these two teams are playing some of the best rugby I've seen in years and it's all set up for a classic.
The Hurricanes have been untouchable on attack in the last few weeks, but will be hoping to grab a bit more possession and territory than they did against the Blues.
Okay, they had won the game in the first 30 minutes, but great teams will kill off the other team, not allow them back into it.
As for the Chiefs? They showed a real maturity against the Stormers last weekend that you just don't expect from an explosive attacking team like the Chiefs.
They were patient, and when it became clear that getting the ball out wide to the wingers wasn't always the best call they kept it in the forwards and rumbled the ball up the park.
The two teams also contain two of the players that I think have had outstanding Super 14 campaigns and wouldn't look out of place with a black jersey on their back.
Okay, it's unlikely to happen but both the Hurricanes' Alby Mathewson and the Chiefs' Callum Bruce have been outstanding.
Bruce, in particular, has impressed me. He's got a strong work ethic, he's reliable and I can't recall the last time he let his team down. I'd love to see him get a run in some of the less-important All Blacks games this season (is there such a thing?)

Yes, it's the potential title decider, Rangers versus Celtic at Ibrox Park in Glasgow - the biggest club football game in the world.
When I left Scotland I knew it was going to be a long time until I sat at Ibrox and heard the spine-tingling noise of a capacity crowd willing on their team and it made me sad. Rugby league and rugby union crowds have nothing on football fans.
It doesn't get much bigger than this. Rangers are a point behind with four games left in the season. A win at the weekend would hand them the advantage over deadly rivals Celtic and would give the fans bragging rights for the next few weeks.
It could even mean the difference between potential financial disaster for the teams, with Rangers in particular needing the money that a place in the European Champions League would bring.
I'll be getting up early to catch the action, and I guarantee by kick-off time my nails will have been bitten down to the quick.
Oh, and did I hear that the Kiwis were playing the Kangaroos at some point this weekend?
So what sporting events are you looking forward to this weekend?
