Kangaroos gameplan great for a loss
November 21, 2008

So, the Kangaroos are going to target Benji Marshall in tomorrow night's World Cup grand final in Brisbane.
Good on them.
If I was Ricky Stuart I'd single him out for a bit of treatment too.
The Aussies are saying Benji is scared of hitting their defence.
They say they're going to wipe the smile off his face and "bash" him.
Sounds like a great plan.
Target one bloke and forget about all the others on the field.
They tried a similar approach in 2005 when they tried to smash and bash their way to victory.
We all know what happened there.
They were well and truly destroyed by a rampant Kiwis side.
They offered up nothing and were given what they deserved - a damn good 24-0 thrashing.
Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney and assistant Wayne Bennett will be cultivating this threat within the team.
They'll be making sure the likes of Sika Manu, Adam Blair, Nathan Cayless, Sam Rapira, David Fa'alogo, Jeremy Smith, Bronson Harrison and Greg Eastwood know they have to be ready to protect their little men.
And these boys will.
They won't let any threat be taken lightly.
And if there's anything more to be taken from the 2005 victory it has got to be the way the Kiwis got the Kangaroos off balance early by getting them all worked up for a fight.
The Aussies were desperate to get into a scrap, they wanted to throw a few punches and in the end they couldn't control their aggression.
If the Kiwis forwards do their job tomorrow night they'll get them all stirred up again.
Let them start thinking more about who they're going to belt and then let the backline go to work.
If the weather in Brisbane over the past few days is anything to go by it's going to be a damp track at best.
A good mate of mine in Brisbane says the weather report is for more storms and possibly even worse on Saturday night.
Great! Bring it on.
The nastier the better will work for the Kiwis.
The Kiwis success is going to ride on the forwards being harder and tougher than their opponents and the backline running freely.
If they can create the space for Manu Vatuvei they will get points on the board.
The Kangaroos will obviously throw a lot of attention towards him but that will open the door for the likes of Jerome Ropati and Lance Hohaia to do their business.
It's going to be a great game.
Go The Kiwis.
