Pick the score - All Blacks v England

Over my time as a fervent follower, I've been blessed to have watched our men in black take the fields in seven countries outside of New Zealand.

These sporting sojourns have included being part of huge crowds at two tests at Twickenham.

And it's these two tests that have undoubtedly produced in me the most stirring feelings of pride, loyalty and a burning desire to win compared to every other test I’ve been present at.

Why this occurred is not difficult to explain.

Each of these two tests felt to me like another chapter in reminding our past colonial masters that they certainly don't rule the game they invented.

It became another occasion to rub the collective noses of their arrogant, somewhat sneering media into the ashes of defeat.

It provided the stage on which to see our beloved black jerseys contrasted so dauntingly with white.

And it delivered the immense satisfaction of silencing the many thousands of Poms who began each match belting out the bizarre refrains of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.

So while relishing the prospect of our team handing out yet another defeat to England, here's also another opportunity to win a whopping $350 voucher from the Lone Star Cafe and Bar.

Again, I want your score line prediction along with the winner and loser.

This Pick the Score competition will close at 9pm, Saturday, NZ time with the game scheduled to start at 3.30 am, Sunday, NZ time.

Only one entry can win which means that in the case of more than one correct entry, the prize will go to the first to answer correctly. Any entry already received is valid.

My predictions to date on how the games have unfolded on this tour to date have been pretty accurate.

But I'm not so certain if I can be of much assistance in providing any significant insight this time around.

There is one obvious question to pose regarding the outcome.

Will this English outfit continue to serve up the rubbish they did against Australia and Argentina in their last two encounters or will this occasion unearth that extra motivation that teams seem to discover for tests against the All Blacks.

For what it's worth, I'm leaning towards our men in black coming considerably closer to firing on all cylinders in this clash and exorcising the ghosts of that ghastly game of rugby in Milan last weekend.

Even if the Poms lift their performance, I'm picking a 20 point plus All Blacks victory.

One certainty to occur in this test is that Dan Carter will surpass Andrew Mehrtens as the top All Blacks point-scorer in our test history.

The 27 year-old Carter now has 966 points from 64 tests. Mehrtens posted 967 points from 70 tests when he finished his test career aged 31.

By the time Carter plays his last test and if he stays relatively injury-free, he will be hundreds of points ahead of Mehrtens.

This will validate the opinion for those, including me, who believe that he is already our greatest pivot ever.

It would not be fair to Mehrtens however, not to point out the fact that his test total would have reached well beyond 1000 had he not been excluded from many of the softer tests played during his span as an All Black.

Statistics reveal that his understudies, Simon Culhane, Tony Brown and to a lesser extent, Carlos Spencer all accrued a large total of points in these easy-beat tests.

The Lone Star voucher was not won last weekend. But I won't be surprised if one of you hasn't secured the $350 prize by around 5.15 am, our time on Sunday morning.

Good luck.
