If I had to pick only one thing to try and explain to sports naysayers why I spend a fair proportion of both my work and spare time watching men chase balls around rugby and football fields it would be passion.

Passion can be a wonderful thing. It leads people to eight-hour round trips to watch a midweek night game against bottom of the table opponents (yep, done that). ...

'Caption of the Week' is back!

We decided to take a break from the widely anticipated 'Caption of the Week' competition last week in the name of rest and recuperation ahead of the All Blacks' Iveco and Tri Nations series.

We certainly don't want to be carrying any injuries into those pun-providing Tests and we detected a drop in overall team performance with the Michael Phelps caption opportunity so better to rest up before coming back harder than before, eh?

On Sunday one of the most eagerly awaited press conferences of the year takes place when Graham Henry and his fellow coaches announce their first All Black team of 2009.

And boy do we at Yahoo!Xtra know that everyone and their dog wants a say in who should pull on that black jersey with the silver fern for the game against France in Dunedin on June 13. ...

We all need to chill and have a laugh after a Monday at work (or is that just me?) so it's time for our weekly caption contest.

Last week failed to hit the highs of the previous week - I suspect because too many people were still suffering from the Kiwis' thumping at the hands of the Kangaroos and weren't quite ready to find any humour in it. ...

Some people, however, seemed quite intent on making penis-size jokes about a 202cm tall, 112kg All Black, all while their e-mail addresses was visible with their comment. ...

I can't wait. The two best teams set to slug it out to see who's number one. The pride and the passion, a sell-out crowd baying for blood and undoubtedly the biggest game of the year so far in the sport.

Yep, the Super 14 is hitting its straps and I can't wait to see the Hurricanes take on the Chiefs on Saturday night. ...

Caption of the Week

Wow! I don't know what happened last Monday but well over 200 of you fronted up and posted a 'Caption of the Week' entry and, more impressively, the standard was much better than the previous week.

Some entries were offensive - which is fine - and some were racist - which isn't and they were deleted - but overall it's the most laughs I've had since I watched Paris Hilton trying to be a serious actress in 'Hottie Or Nottie'.

The winner for
