Wozniacki faces racism complaints after impression

Odd Balls Updated December 12, 2012, 7:40 pm

Caroline Wozniacki has endured something of an up-and-down time during the last two years.

The former world number one fell to 10th in the rankings and failed to make the quarter finals of any of the Grand Slams in 2012.

She was even forced to deny her relationship with golf superstar Rory McIlroy was causing her drop in form.

But thankfully the stunning 22-year-old Danish star has managed to keep a sparkle in her eyes and her sense of humour, as witnessed by her display during an exhibition match with Maria Sharapova at the weekend:

Some tennis players are known for having a laugh, particularly Novak Djokovic. He has made a lot of fans for his impersonations of other stars.

We're not quite sure how Serena - a friend of the talented Dane - will respond to Wozniacki's towel-enhanced boobs and bum.

But that hasn't stopped some on social media from claiming the impersonation was racist.

On Tumblr one person wrote "This isn't "harmless fun" as one article described it. its racist. out and outright racism. mocking and making fun of the bodies of black women for a laugh? real funny, stupid white girl. real real funny."

Executive director of the Australian Multicultural Foundation, Hass Dellal, says while Wozniacki likely didn't intend her actions to be racist they could be interpreted as such.

"It's quite inappropriate to be mocking or making jest of people's physical shape or image, especially when it's such an issue with young people today," he said.

What a load of nonsense. As any sports fan will tell you it's making fun of Serena because she's got big boobs and a big bum - nothing to do with her colour.

Some people need to get out a bit more!

As with all attacks on others - the Intent of the offender has to be considered - before any judgement can be passed ... of course there was no attack on Serena - no Reference at All, to Serena - No Reference to Black people - No attack on anyone or anything ... what da phuk's the problem here - It's just a girl having a bit of fun ... oopsi daisy - that might be sexist? This so called racicsm is absolutely over the top,nz was questioned about eskimo icecream by a canadian visitor, the daughter of princess caroline of monaco got into hot water because she was wearing a native american indian dress-as kids we were playing in indian and cowboydresses all the time and we definately did not intend to discriminate the native indians,we had black dolls to play with, nowadays you end up with the human rights group getting after you if you did that.We should focus on the real human right breaches and racism that happens and we read about in the paper or watching on the news every single day! What a laughable matter that is!
